The Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce was originally incorporated in 1993 as a Corporation without share capital under Part II of the Canada Corporations Act. As such, the CUCC must meet all of the regulatory requirements set down in the law.

PURPOSE

The Chamber is a privately led initiative whose purpose is to facilitate trade and investment relations between Ukraine and Canada by organizing and sponsoring trade missions, seminars and trade conferences in addition to offering access to specific areas of business expertise and consulting resources to both the business communities in Canada and Ukraine.

STRUCTURE

Board of Directors

The main administrative body of the Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce is the Board of Directors comprising of no less than 12 and no more than 30 members elected for a two year term and chaired by the President and currently comprising twenty-nine members. To ensure continuity of management, only half of the Board Members stand for election at the Annual General Meeting. The duties and powers of the Board of Directors are outlined in the By-Laws of the Chamber.

Executive Committee

The Canada Corporations Act allows the Board to appoint an Executive Committee to oversee the day to day operations of the Chamber. The Executive Committee shall have all the powers of the Board (subject to any constraints imposed by the Board) in the management and direction of the affairs and business of the Chamber ins such a manner as the Executive Committee deems in the best interest of the Chamber in all cases in which specific directions have not been given by the Board of Directors

* The Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce has been acknowledged and endorsed by the Consulate General of Ukraine in Canada ??.as a recognized and competent nongovernmental organization whose membership comprises representatives for Ukrainian and Canadian industrial sectors and commercial enterprises in addition to private business.?
* Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce has signed a Joint Cooperation Agreement with the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kyiv) generally for the purposes of establishing and developing trade and economic relations between businesses and organizations o Ukraine and Canada.
* Since the initial effort to establish the Chamber had been made by the Ukrainian Canadian Professional and Businessmen Association (UCPBA), it was seen as being in the best interests of both the Chamber and the UCPBA to develop a working relationship. With the UCPBA with members from coast to coast in Canada and the Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce linked to trade with Ukraine, a cooperative effort would preclude the incidence of competing initiatives and would present a unified front.
* The Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce is an Associate Member of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Toronto (EUCOCIT) and that provides an opportunity to establish contacts and enter into cooperative ventures with Chambers representing the interests of nations that are members of the European Union.
