The Canada Ukraine Chamber of Commerce held its successful Fourth Annual Independence Day Golf Tournament at Royal Woodbine Golf & Country Club in Toronto on August 18, ahead of the 18^th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence Day celebrations on August 24.  The CUCC tournament attracted 110 players to sign up for the tee-off in Ukrainian “best ball format”. Twenty-seven men’s and women’s teams hit, hacked and putted their way around the golf course, but more importantly doing so having a good time according to Eugene Masney.

 “There were prizes for those fortunate enough to hit their shot onto one of the Par 3 prize holes and even if they missed, there was the Par 3 where they were treated to a sampling of Slava or Zirkova vodka or a glass of Slavutich or Lvivske beer” said Masney.

All golf players convened at the Ukrainian National Federation Community Centre, who were joined by guests in the Trident Banquet Hall for a fabulous tournament dinner and recognition of the winners in various categories. The following awards were presented to the First Place Men’s Team – Scott Cull, Brian Oliver, Dan Beverly, and Rick Bailey, and to the First Place Women’s Team – Sonia Potichnyj, Anna Iwasykiw, Lesia Babiak and Lesia Campbell. Generous Platinum and Gold level sponsorship was recognized as well as Hole-In-One, Hole sponsors and prize donors, who were thanked for their tremendous support of the tournament (listed at www.cucc.ca).

The CUCC especially thanked Aleksandr Danyleyko, Ukraine’s Consul General in Toronto, Senator Consiglio Di Nino, Master of Ceremonies Ted Woloshyn and special guest Lance Chomyk, Toronto Argonaut Alumnus and premier CFL place-kicker for attending the tournament and helping make the day more enjoyable.

A much anticipated annual summer event, next year’s CUCC Independence Day Golf tournament will attract sponsors and players who enjoy golfing while having fun, in recognition of a milestone event for Ukraine and not forgetting their Ukrainian background and roots.  Regarded by many as one of the best organized golf tournaments around, participants walked away with a greater confidence to work on their golf swings and scores for next year.
