Ontario Resource Package for Newcomers Launched by UCC

UCC Ontario and UCC National are pleased to launch the Ukrainian CUAET Newcomers’ Ontario Resource Package. This important project is the final result of a collaborative effort between UCC
Ontario, UCC National, and the Deloitte Canada Community Advisory Projects team, and provides critical settlement support information to the thousands of displaced Ukrainian citizens who are settling in the province.  The resource package concisely identifies the multitude of needs that newcomers have, and provides clear information on how these needs can be met based on
services provided by available provincial institutions. Specifically, the document provides key information on:

  • Documents of Life (SIN, OHIP)
  • Legal Rights in Canada
  • Phone & Wi-Fi Plans
  • Transportation
  • Temporary and Permanent Housing
  • Financial Assistance and Services
  • Food Access
  • Childcare
  • Healthcare
  •  Education
  • Employment Support

Also, included in the package is a map illustrating the distances from Toronto to various other Ontario communities, and a brief overview of some of the cities outside of Toronto that newcomers may wish to consider for settlement. 60 Deloitte Canada volunteers generously donated over 200 of their work hours and expertise to put this together, many of these volunteers used their own Ukrainian relatives’, friends’ and loved ones’ arrival journeys to map out the key milestones and make this package as user friendly and as comprehensive as possible.

Canada Ukraine Chamber of Commerce becomes partners with Business Council of Canada

Business Council of Canada becomes partner of Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce

June 22, 2022

Toronto, Ontario – The Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce (CUCC) today announced it is welcoming the Business Council of Canada (BCC) as a formal NGO partner to promote increased trade and investment between Canada and Ukraine. CUCC partners in Canada already include the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Conference Board of Canada.

“In order to sustain their operations and help Ukraine fight war on the economic front, Ukrainian businesses are looking for new markets and partners in Canada. We are thrilled to partner with BCC and believe that together we can help Ukrainian companies looking to expand into Canada as well as to use the expertise of Canadian companies in rebuilding Ukraine”, said President of CUCC Zenon Potichny.

“The mission and mandate of the Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce have never been more important,” said BCC President & CEO Goldy Hyder. “Ukraine’s economy has been described by their Ambassador to Canada, Her Excellency Yuliya Kovaliv, as the ‘third front’ in fighting Russia’s illegal invasion. Strengthening our economic ties is in both countries’ interests.”

The BCC has supported the Government of Canada’s efforts to facilitate increased trade and investment with Ukraine, including its removal of tariffs on goods imported from Ukraine. The BCC has also urged government to modernize the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement to cover trade in services as well as review and remove any needless non-tariff barriers.

“Many of Canada’s largest employers are providing financial and other humanitarian assistance to Ukraine as well as supporting displaced Ukrainians,” added Mr. Hyder. “But Canadian business leaders also want to collaborate with their Ukrainian counterparts in areas where Canadian trade and investment are needed both at this crucial time and after Ukraine’s victory.”

CUCC launches Rebuild Ukraine Committee

Dear friends,

As the tensions between Ukraine and russia reached another record high last Fall and beginning of 2022 that to our regret lead to full-scale invasion into Ukraine, CUCC tried to help its members and UA & CA businesses by consulting them about ways to relocate businesses, overcome challenges and prepare BCP.

For the whole period since February 24, our team members based in Kyiv (with temporary relocation to Western Ukraine) and Toronto were ready to deliver.   For more than two months CUCC was the only Canadian organization with staff in Ukraine ready to help and monitor the situation.

Understanding that Ukraine not only needs military equipment and funding to win the war we also acknowledge that the country will face even tougher period of rebuilding its economy, infrastructure and investment flows, the Board of CUCC decided to establish the “Rebuild Ukraine Committee”.

The committee is comprised of CUCC board members, executive team & willing member companies representatives. Participation is open and based on willingness to bring and execute new ideas and challenging projects that might be presented to the Government of Canada for funding and further implementation. Committee’s main focus areas are Investment flows, Construction, Agriculture, Oil&Gas, Energy, and ICT. Members meet biweekly, reporting on the progress reached and further steps.

Should you wish to join Committee’s activities please contact Sviatoslav Kavetskyi or Olha Mandyuk.

Successful Ukrainian participation at the 2022 Global Energy Show

Global Energy Show, North America’s Leading Energy Event
June 7-9, 2022
BMO Centre at Stampede Park – Calgary, Canada
As North America’s Leading Energy Event, the Global Energy Show is the largest B2B exhibition and conference engaging

industry buyers and sellers, stakeholders and partners, CEOs, and young professionals together to share knowledge and fuel innovation in the ever-changing energy landscape.

Hosted on June 7-9, 2022, the Global Energy Show was inclusive to all energy systems, including features on the exhibition floor and conference in oil sands, hydrogen, wind, solar, petrochemicals, gas and LNG, electrification and nuclear. As no single source of energy can meet the increased global energy demand, the Global Energy Show is where Canada demonstrates its vision and leadership by bringing the right people together to meet global challenges with real-world solutions.
Within the last ten years participation of Ukraine in this leading energy event – including both companies and officials – is a tradition. Despite russia’s war against Ukraine, GES 2022 is not an exception. Event organizers and friends of the Canada Ukraine Chamber of Commerce put all their hearts and efforts to ensure a successful Ukrainian presentation at the event.
Organizers of the show provided a great opportunity for the newly appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Ms. Yuliya Kovaliv and the top management of NAK Naftogaz of Ukraine to update on the situation in the energy sector of Ukraine at the breakfast on June 8, 2022.
Ambassador Kovaliv has emphasized: “We are grateful to Canada for support and clear understanding that dependence on the Russian oil and gas to be left in the past. Our (Ukrainian) oil and gas sector needs the Canadian expertise, technologies and investments in order to increase the domestic production”.

President of Canada Ukraine Chamber of Commerce and Director of Zhoda Investments Mr. Zenon Potoczny represented the private sector and investors working in oil and gas in Ukraine. The topic of his presentation was “Ukraine’s Energy Security – Threats and Opportunities”. He mentioned that: “Energy sector is crucial in rebuilding Ukraine, with new technology and modernization of this sector Ukraine will not only be able to sustain its energy security but will be supporting the European energy security system as well”.
?On behalf of CUCC and Ukraine, we would like to thank the organizers of the show for this great opportunity, support of Ukraine and for the success of the event.
