Each September, communities across Ontario come together to celebrate Ukrainian Heritage Month, recognizing the rich history, culture, traditions, and contributions of Ukrainian Canadians to the province and to Canada.
Ukrainian Heritage Month in Ontario was officially established through the Ukrainian Heritage Month Act (Bill 215), which received Royal Assent on December 19, 2024. The month provides an opportunity to honour generations of Ukrainian Canadians while promoting greater awareness and appreciation of Ukrainian heritage through educational, cultural, artistic, and community initiatives.
The theme for Ukrainian Heritage Month 2026 is “Culinary Heritage of Ukraine,” celebrating the traditions, regional diversity, and cultural significance of Ukrainian cuisine. Food has long played an important role in preserving Ukrainian identity, bringing families and communities together, passing traditions from one generation to the next, and sharing Ukrainian culture with the broader Canadian community.
Ukrainian Heritage Month in Ontario is an initiative of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Ontario Provincial Council (UCC-OPC) and is led by Liliya Gulych, Chair of the Ukrainian Heritage Month in Ontario Committee.
The Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce is pleased to support initiatives that celebrate Ukrainian heritage and strengthen the connections between Ukrainian Canadian communities, businesses, institutions, and partners across Ontario.
